Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

attaching an object to a surface

I want to constrain some objects to another object's surface. Specifically laces to a boot. What I want is for the the laces to follow the surface as it deforms due to its skinning. The geometry constraint doesn't seem to work as the contrainted objects (the laces) slide all over the surface. Ideally, I want the laces to stick to a point between 4 vertices. The boot, btw is polygons. Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Pat

Have you tried parenting or, if all the objects are polygons, perhaps Combining them?

Check out the xform node, which returns the values you need, or
download the 'rivet" script from highend.
