Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

August - Norm - Athos

Hi.

I don´t know for sure what´s the right category for me, but I will enter as a normal, because of the prize (Wacom Intuos). I want to go further into concept paintings, character design and textures creation.

I´m a little afraid of the deadline. My pc had a bug in the last weeks, and I was unable to begin working on my entry. So, I´m very late and maybe i will be unable to finish it.

Anyway, here´s my first concept drawings for the final render in maya.

Workflow - I´ll be modeling both guys and background using box modeling techniques. Once they are finished, I´ll render it with mental ray. If, then, I still have a day or two, I´ll try to texture them and sculpt displacements in zbrush, bring back to maya and render again.

(long thread).
I´m still coloring the drawing of the complete scene, because I feel it is necessary for keeping control of the mood, lighting etc.
The composition is somewhat based on a foto I´ve found in google. I "mentally" mirrored it horizontally, changed minor elements, removed a box hanging in the wall, added the jewish guy, put the nazi guy´s arm raised with the pistol in hand, changed his facial expression and few other things.

As a necessary note: I´m in NO WAY sympatethic with nazism. It´s a really sad and crazy chapter in the history of human thoughts and beliefs. I´ve choosen this subject, because I feel there were much of fear and loathing in those times.

It´s enough for now. Hope I finish it on time.
Best wishes for all.

A little progress in the overall lighting idea.

I´ll finish conceiving the lighting and colors today. Early tomorrow I´ll begin modeling.

well you can obviously draw and paint well. If you model just as well then this should be a stunning entry.

yeah, really good character drawing athos.
Done any cartoon strips before? Your character drawing style really fits that area well user added image

The concept really gets that 'fear and loathing' subject too, good luck!

Thanks, mhcannon, vedic kings, t1ck135 and McKinley.

Good luck for those of you participating in the challenge, too.

t1ck135: Yeah, I´ve already made some comic strips. But most of them as a hobby. I´ve won a prize with a comic strip participating a contest in Spain, once. But my job have been most as a illustrator.

Now, wanting to be a 3d animator, and do shorts, games or both.

I was going to do a last concept based on the last post, with added color and details, but the timeframe I have now don´t allow me to do this.

I´m on box modeling now.

Good words, mhcannon. Remembers me of a famous Buddha's speech.

Modeled the background.
Now I will model the two characters. I´ll try to model a basic human figure, then tweak the forms and add details to each one in separate scenes, to speed up the process.
Any more detailing to the background may be added later.

good start, hope you can get the figures completed in time.

remember its about lighting so I wouldn't worry too much about textures if you have limited time user added image
