strange faces

Can someone please help me, ive been following Craigs monster VIP tutorial. im working on the eye now but it tells me to select the faces and extrude. but i have these faces (circled in red on the attached picture, which means when i extrude i get a very strange result. can someone please tell me how to get rid of these faces or how to get round this problem, thanks guys,

in the channel box put the *keep face together* node to *on*
before the extrusion.
btw my english iso bad that i prefer explain my point with picture!
