Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

Greetings from Iraq!!!

Hello once again every one. I am getting ready to start a brand new project and it came to me when I was sitting up in my guard tower over looking the Iraq skyline. Out of my guard tower, is this beautiful Mosque that was never finished before the war started over here in Iraq. I thought to myself wonder what it would look like finished so I thought I might try and tackle this building. any sugestions or ideas please let me know!!

Thanks

Try putting a mild majestic palace in the center.

it realy is a wonderful view. the sun sets right behind it in the evening. sometimes I wish Iraq were a little more peaceful and the people of this country could enjoy what they have. I do not know much about maya yet, as I am still just learning so any help on how to construct this building would be greatly apriciated. I am in the process of working on the blueprints right now for it

Thanks again!!

It looks like a big place. It may be good to do it in parts then bring them all together in one file. Could get overwhelming.

PS. Thanks for being there.

I dont think you will need blueprints really. The shapes are fairly simple geometric patterns which repeat a lot. Look at all the spires and stuff they are all the same really just repeated around the centre. Believe me the duplicate options box will be your friend on this one.

Vietcong: if you dont support war is your username an ironic statement? user added image

@Pure_Morning-:
I don't get why my username is "pro-war" and i never sayed i disrespect anyone who is forced to fight in iraq.
I served in the army, because it was mandatory. fortunatly not in a war...
feel free to send me a PM

@all
sorry for this discussion, i think blomkaal is right, we should not start a war discussion here.

ok I was taking the piss because the vietcong were one side who took part in a WAR so it would seem ironic that someone who doesn't support "any war" would have a username so closely linked to war... especially one so horrific as the Vietnam one!!!!! sheesh!!!

also I didnt imply that you were disrespecting anyone fighting in the war. That is the way I feel about it. Hence why the part that was aimed at you had your username infront of it!!! :headbang:

lighten up FFS mate!!

anyways back on topic in 3..2..1.. go!

Hi!

I would model only one part of this object and then duplicate it.
It's perfect, because its basically an octagon, so delete the other 7 parts and model all the detail, then go to EDIT>Duplicate Options and type in:
rotate: y=45.0
Number of Copies: 7
Duplicate

Now its an octagon again, you only have to combine the 8 parts (Polygon>Combine) and merge the Vertices (Edit Polygons>Merge Vertices)

I answered the "How to make holes" part once in another post:
https://forum.simplymaya.com/showthre...362#post149362

hope it helps you too
