Black Spots

I have been working on this file with no problems, all of a sudden I'm getting black spots. All my files of this character are like this now. Very strange.

I've tried normalising UV's, merging vertices etc etc, deleting history etc etc.

Is it my graphics card? Has it conked out? Other files seem to work fine...

Please somebody, this is crazy.

What the hell is going on?

post a screen shot so we can have a quick look, maybe you have some hidden overlapping vertices, etc

Sorry was in a rush and its late here. So sleepy.

I meant soften/hardening my normals, not normalising UV's.

I've just been using the normal edit tool and all the black spots are back to front normals. Why? If it's not new, why couldn't I see this before?

Why are the normals in the surrounding area of those black spots facing correctly on my unsmoothed model.

Why, if it is new, has it affected all my previous saves?

And, finally, now that I know whats wrong, whats the best way besides manually editing these bastards to fix this problem?

Extreme thankyou's to anybody who replys.

Switched linear smooth back to exponential.
