Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

GI Jay

Thought I'd have a go at this guy, without the tutorial though, so so far I've only downloaded the ref's... Here's where I'm at after a few hours of modelling:

Thanks Sarge user added image

I've tried changing a few loops. It doesn't seem to affect how it smoothes in sub-d, but personally I think the new one (on the right) looks a bit more messy. Anyone?

I'd also like a little help with the edgeloops on the nose, as I've never really been any good at them. I'll post a close-up if anyone's willing to pull out a pen or give me some pointers

Updates enroute user added image

And a wire. Still need to tweak lots of stuff, the skull is a bit too bumpy, I want the jaw to be sharper and the chin more defined. And of course, the ears! user added image

Corporal Blomkaal

Looks good, though Id add an extra set of edges down that cheek, as you may suffer from stretched uvs later on. As for the ear...mwhaahahahaha, download the rest of the tute

Looking Good

Haha, good luck with the ear. I'd probably skip it and give him a helmet that covered his ear...

Yeah I'll probably be adding more loops tomorrow, just wanted to keep it as low and simple as possible at this point. Think you can point out the part you think will become stretched?

As for the helmet, I plan on making him a drill instructor (or what the heck they're called) so I'll be making him one of those silly hats, so I might check out the tutorial. Jay, you remember which part covers the ear?
EDIT: just did a quick Google search for "drill instructor", and THIS is kinda what I had in mind user added image

And here's the pic with the two different loops I apparently forgot to attach earlier, though I'm probably sticking with the ones I have now.

Cheers folks user added image

LOL

Smooth Vocal Stylings, thats the sound of a man talking to a monitor very late at night.

Dave: I did mean to ask about the ear, I take it you tried it out, how did it go?

Update time (finally got a tiny christmas holiday today)!

Fixed the skull, tweaked the jaw and cheek (it's geting pretty darn close to how I want it), and made the lower lip smaller (thought it made him look slightly moronic user added image )

Dave, thanks for stopping by user added image Yeah I'll probably need to check out the ear, do you know which part(s) of the tut covers it? Hehe I've been looking forward to Jay making a tut to see if his instructions are as smooth as his work user added image
