Newbie: Virtual Sliders don

hi,
im really new to maya. opened it first time yesterday
im missing the ability to use virtual sliders. yesterday i was able to edit the attribute by moving the mouse after selecting a attribute, hold down ctrl-key and left mouse button.
what´s wrong with this?
please help,

Hi payton,

middle mouse button isn't sliding values correctly, did you try this one ?
(I never use ctrl-lmb) user added image
Not sure ctrl-lmb or simply mmb have got same effect.
I'll check when restarting maya otherwise user added image

Be sure capslock is not engaged (though CTRL is not sensitive to it, i think).

I don't think 'bout anything else so far.
