Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

Anyways ive been watching OCC on discovery lately and their bikes are awesome so i decided to give one a try in maya. Heres what ive done so far! Oh and id like some input for the colour i thought it would be best if you guys decided cause i just cant decide.

Oh and some help on creating realistic tires would be great.

Hello there,

looking cool so far, you could do the tyres a couple of ways, either bump map or model them,

dilberts posted THIS tutorial on how to model tyres, it's for max but I'm pretty sure you could adapt it.

As far as bump mapping a tyre goes it's a case of creating a tread pattern in a photoshop type program, making sure it fits your tyre then applying it as a bump map.

Regarding the colour how about sparkly blue with something cheesy airbrushed onto the petrol tank?

Cheers,

Mat.

Here's something I came up with a while back. You could easily adapt it to poly modelling and keep in mind that this was just to illustrate the concept. The tread pattern could easily be finer.

Heres an update, changed quite a bit as you can see.

I gotta find a good tire shader now, as it is hard to make out the detail.
