2nd Attempt At Car Modeling

Alright so the supra thing didnt go as planned. Im actually still working on it and its starting to look real good. I am however comming up with bumps that I cannot seem to figure out and my geometry is lookin good so I decided to buy a tutorial and see what I was doing wrong. As soon as i finish this tut, I will be finishing the Supra since its my fav car. As I said before, I own a eclipse so I decided to build the eclipse form digitaltutors.com since that have a tut on it. I will instead of diong it like they do since theres is stock, Ill kinda make it look similar to mines with probably some extras. Please stay on the lookout for updates. Hopes this goes alot better

hey, that supra was excellent for a first model.

Well, I'm looking foreward to seeing you do this, you are pretty good for a starter- no scratch that- you're really good for a starter.

I was reading Dilberts comments on the guy who finished the ferrari and I agree Dilbert. THe HDR does look crappy compared to throwing in mental ray area lights and raytraced soft shadows. However, I am guilty of using HDR images because I didnt do my first mental ray untill last week so im learning but Im going to test what you said because that car you attached looks very very sexi. I have to fully agree with you but for now your getting the HDR crap

Anyways, This Tut is taking forever to come in so I decided to start. I wanted to see if I would be able to get it and so far so good so heres some shots. I added My own specialties because I dont want to do no stock crap since ines isnt stock. Well CC are very welcomed. I love the crits especially cause then I can find out what I can do to make my work look its best. Well thanks for viewing

Good start, but focus on getting the details looking accurate. The biggest thing I see here is the edges are too rounded, which gives you the toy car look. They shouldn't be sharp, but they shouldn't be as round as yours either. Take a look at a real car, and you'll see that from a distance, all the breaks in the panels are nice and crisp. This is my biggest gripe with using SUBD's as using the crease tool lets Maya decide how the final product should look, rather than you specifically making the final object look real.

As for rendering, don't worry about it. HDRI's are a good quick way to get a decent snapshot of how you're doing. But once the model is finished, take a try at developing your lighting skills.

Getting there. Try increasing the gap between the hood panel and the bumper panel, so that there's a clear black line between the two. As you have it right now, if you were to open the hood, it would scrape against the bumper. Same with the side panels.
