need help quick!

hey guys i realy need some of your help, i have started to model and am using a cube, yep real simple untill i go to move the vertices of the cube and it moves the whole row on points instead of just one vert. Could someone please help me out?
Thanks, proberly something real simple but it stops you from making stuff so please help me out asap.

did you select in any of the ortographic views? And did you click select one vertex or drag select over it? Because if you drag select you will select vertices right through your entire model.
