This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.
I'm attempting to make a collar on a character using maya cloth (which I will later attach to the remainder of the shirt). I took a picture of a collar to use as a pattern to draw the curves and got it all set up.
Now the goal is for the collar to fold down and wrap around the neck of my character.
To wrap it around the neck i created some drag manipulators. But these seem to make the collar pop back up as they drag it around. The effect can be reduced by slowing down the rate of the drag shuttles. But it never quite looks right. I need suggestions for what kind of constraints to create and what vertices to select for the constraints and drag manipulators to get a realistic effect. I tried creating a mesh constraint with the vertices near the back of the neck that helped, but still it's not quite right.
Also, I would like to keep the collar stiffer. I tried using the preset for denim in the properties (figuring that would be stiff). Real dress shirt collars have little plastic "sticks" in them to keep them strong.
Any setting suggestions are helpful.
If anybody has done this please instruct me. I'm just doing this by trial and error (and so far it's mostly error).
