Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character
OK, now im here i gotta finish it but it may be difficult. the model i have in mind is a compass i got from my father. it is a very old style and worn ect. i will do my own image planes and textures from my new digital camera (i also got from me father because he doesn't unertstand all the buttons, so we made a swap).
i figure there will be a lot of work flows and hoping for some help.
It is transparent and has clear fluids, with a bubble (possibly i could animate the bubble with an aim constrant, same with the needle which i am definate i can do with an aim constraint, and get away from key frames.)
thanks guys, sorry about the size of the pictures, had to get back into the hang of it.
Anyway, yea, it will be interesting. the render i am looking forward to, there are a loy of approaches to the render alone. for now, i'm figuring on how..,
trying to plan things a bit for the first time.
i have used all polys here and a bit of boolean action. the top is a shader with minnimul everything. no textures yet. As mat (? your both matt?) said.., how am i going to approach this? I figure polys and soft edges for a start. This has no soft edes but just something to work it check out a few things..
anyway, blah blah here is a quick walk around the room.
interestingly the latest 3D world mag (sorry about the advert placement, an accident, i bought it yesterday and didnt open it until after i made that quick tentative model) ) has an article about making glass textues, although this is plastic and will have a few diferant properties in noise and specular, (anything else??) the article may be useful for this project.
I think the model may not be difficult to build, but there are a few things like the water and the plastic lid, and the worn textures that will be interesting if not very difficult for my level of ability and knowledge to model.
this will be slow going because uni starts monday. Time is valuable and short in supply, but onward christian soldiers...
thanks antiant, but im limited in experiance and this project, though of interest to me too for its esthetics and old style charm (i write asian movie reviews, sounds like im writing one for myself??) anyway, is mainly for the differant workflows so this is research for me.
looking good so far. I think that the shaders that you're using are making the image look a little flat though, there's no specularity or reflection. I guess that you're not finished modelling yet so it's no biggy really, I just fancied sticking my oar in!!
