[help] this is weird, can't see what i've rendered

I've never had this problem before - I rendered out a playblast as a QT. it opened up in QT, I could see it fine. Imported it into After Effects. Couldn't see it, it looked like it was the alpha channel or something, all black. Imported it into Final Cut, same problem. I tried to export as a tga sequence, I can open the individual frames and see them, but not the sequence in AE or Final Cut. I can only assume it's a Maya glitch, maybe something wrong with the playblast options. But still why can some programs see it (QT, Preview, Finder - I'm on a Mac), but others not be able to see it?

Not sure if anyone's ever seen this problem, much help would be appreciated as my client is waiting to see it.

Thanks.
