Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

UFOs and goals

in this scene i have a UFO i want to shoot down with the particle sysem which is basically at default except i think it is emmitting around 300 rather than the default 100. I have a PP colour ramp, colour is accumulative (doesn't matter at all if it is or not for this) and i have a ramp on PP opacity (again doesn't matter) you can see the speed and so forth .

my goal (pun) is to hit the UFO, it is keyed across 300 frames in X from left to right (-X to X.., whatever)

the default setting for a goal are with 'transform' is off so if you want to hit a piece of geometry, a camera, or whatever, anything with a transform you must check this box

on the particle menu there is a 'goal' drop down and there you can mess around with the sliders and stuff but how i got this result is with the 'conserve' in the 'general controls attributes' for the particle shape, it is down from one to .5, and it seems quiet happy there. you can have more than one goal, if you do you will need to look at 'gaol wiegtht.; eg, one goal could be keyed at .1 and the other at .9 and then you could swap those around with keying halfway on the time line (hope that made sense.)
