Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

u could 1 do it in subd mode or covert to poly
but ull use the same tools

on the sub d model right click and chose polygon mode the chose edges.
extrude these edges and merge verts an that sould do it

now im not sure if u can use append polygon tool on a sub in poly mode but if u can select the edges in direction of arrows and then use split polygon tool to clean up

hope this helps

if u want to close the hand with a flat surface, create a polygon circle, use the planar operation, which is found in the modelling menu set.

then move the circle exactly over the hand , tweak it so that it perfectly fits the back of the hand. now merge the vertices of the hand and the circle. that should close it.

otherwise u have to attatch it to an arm

You want to close the hole?

From the menu: Edit Polygons -> Fill Hole

In polygon mode if your using subdivs you caneither use append polygon tool to draw in the hole by connecting the verts, extrde the existing edges to connect to eachother or somthing like that. I go for the first and then cut the face to clean it up
