what the hell is the point of that????Tried a scene last nite with 348 human ears in it - all polys. Software render took 3.5 minutes, hardware render took 3 seconds.

Telling you, or having a scene with 348 ears?
a) Didn't know if you've had a 3d card before, and if not was trying to let you know what sort of performance boost you could expect.
if on the other hand, it was (b) I'd been curious to see how much geometry I could model and render without going over the 1 gig of ram I've got. It seemed a hell of a lot easier to simply duplicate the object I was working on the time than anything else.. No?
