Animation repetition

Hi all,

If for example you were animating a person riding a bike, is there any way to animate one pedal cycle, have it repeat, then move the whole bike/person model seperately?

Basically i'm trying to work out how to save the need for having to key frame the same motion many time over throughout a scene. Another example would be doing two steps of a walk cycle and having it repeat but still be able to control movement of the whole model/animation.

Does that make sense? apologies if not
