paint mode

I am using maya 8.5 and vista. if i hit the 8 key and get into the paint mode I can't get out unless I turn off Maya. Help please?

If you hit 8 again it should take you back to the regular mode but you will still have the paint tool activated. Hit the select tool in the toolbox and you should be back to normal.
