This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

image ref help

Hi, I know the solution to this must be simple
But I just cant figure it out
I'm new to maya and am trying the hand mode tut
after ive put in the image planes
i head over to the 4-view, and only the persp view
shows the images
I've tried hitting 4, 5, 6, 7 for the dfft views
but it still doesnt show-included a screen shot

I dont know if this has been asked before
but it s a real stumbling block and it would be a great help
thanks

Try going into the orthographic views (Top, Front and Side) and hitting 6 to turn on texture mode.

Hope it works,

Mat.

edit: just read the rest opf the problem and you've tried that, it could be that the shader you're using to attach the images has reflectivity, try turning that and the specular
down.

Mat.

Is ther anything else I can try?

wen im trying to enlarge it
is thre a problem with my maya? should i maybe just reinstall?

I don't think that it's Maya.

Sometimes it's due to the fact that your graphics card isn't compatible, try updating your graphics card driver to the latest one. What are your computers specs? I've seen a couple of people at university who are using Maya on their laptops which don't have the necessary specs and they have the same or very similar problems.

Take it easy,

Mat.

Yeah think Mats correct, if you get missing manipulators and funny things going on with textures on cirtian viewports is generally points to a graphics card issue.

On a side note when I was getting my laptop I chose very carefully so that I had a compatable card (although its not in Autodesks qualified list as its a Gforce I did quite a bit of digging around to make sure it worked.)
