GIJoe/AO Help

I've decided to give the GIJoe script a go, currently using maya 6.0 as I'm having issues installing 8.5, under the mental ray attribute in the render globals, I know I should be upping a number but which one/s? I'm currently not getting a great deal better results regardless of what I've done.
