Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.
hey there
im just about to recive a new laptop and i was wondering if weather it is ok to use maya on it. i know in an ideal world i could use a computer with a lot more power but im getting this laptop for free so beggers cant be choosers!!!
Its a toshiba tecra A8-192 notebook
intel core 2 duo processor 1.83Ghz

1Gb DDR Ram (2 * 215Mb)
80Gb hard drive
Intel 945GM graphics adapter
I dont think u want to do highend 3D production on a laptop, do u? Maybe start simple models and finish it big on a desktop. So of course u could use it, as long u don't expect it to replace your desktop machine.
And yes, u might run into window-update problems (GUI elecment that don't refresh properly), but sometimes this is fixed by trying out several GFX card driver versions from the hardware vender's website. The latest drivers are not always the best when using Maya.
I used to work for months with Maya on a NEC laptop when I was kinda homeless. Hard to bring a desktop in your backpack. Besides the ocasional window-update problem, it worked fine for me as a beginner.
