Incremental move with the use of arrow-keys

Holding down Alt and pressing one of the arrow keys, makes an object move a tad up, down, left or right.

But, it seems that this incremental move is only relative to the viewplane, which means it moves in a percentage of your screen size. If you zoom out, and use the arrow keys again, it still moves according to a ratio in regard to screen size, and NOT in increments in say meters or centimeters.

Is there an other way in maya to get incremental moves WITH the arrow keys? So an object moves every ten centimeters for every press on the arrow key.

The move tool has such a function, but using the arrow keys would be great! Is it possible?
