Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

Objects shadows and Particles

hello
I have an object in my scene that stands on a nurbs plane that has a Use Background material
then I have a curve that surrounds the objects and emits cloud type particles
a directional light hits both particles and the object
the problem now is, in the normal situation before emitting the particles the object casts shadow on the ground (nurbs plane)
but when the particles emitted and appear in the scene the shadow of the object is gone
is there anyone who has the answer to this?

A backgroundshader is used when you are making use off images in maya(imageplanes), just regular jpeg and such.
Now when you model something that you want to be in the picture, it normally would'nt cast shadows, but when you create a plane and align it so that it matches up with the picture, and drop a use backgroundshader on it , there will be shadows.
So i would use a regular lambert if you only want to see the shadows that is.

Hope this made sense, good luckuser added image
