This course contains a little bit of everything with modeling, UVing, texturing and dynamics in Maya, as well as compositing multilayered EXR's in Photoshop.
I'm a proper newbie! not done any animation/3D modeling before. I've been teaching myself Maya for about 3-4 weeks now, found this forum and had a look at the tutorials here. they've been very helpful.
Thought i would come on the forums and introduce myself. hopefully get some advice from the more experienced people here in the future.
i've kind of got to grips with some modeling, just been struggling with texturing. i'll post some stuff if someone points me in the right direction (sub forum)
if your problems are with laying out uv's check out RoadKill, it's free to use and free to download. It lays the uv's out for you nicely with very little tweaking needed. I haven't used it for anything I've done yet (I have tested it), but I will on my next project.
@hammer.horror:
we are happy to help new members if u follow 3 important rules.
1. open the documentary (e.g. inside maya press F1) and do the tutorials. They will get you started.
2. if you got a clue.. the tiniest bit o clue press F1 again and use the search function. sometimes the explanation there is better and more in depth plus you learn to use your best friend The Maya Help.
3. come to SM and use the search function. maybe the questiomn was asked before. in this rule the use of google is implemented. there are many boards. someone must have had the same prob once.
if not, feel free to ask..
Try also looking for Headus UV Layout. I believe it's still free, if not I'm sure you can find a crack somewhere. It's the easiest most efficient UV layout program I've seen. Just drop your shape, and you hold the "F" key and it automatically flattens the mesh perfectly like magic. We use it at work.
