Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 2
This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

Maya 2008 Blendshape issue?

I created blendshapes for my character. However, when i move the slider up lets say, for his 'smile', my rig is no longer binded to my character's skin.

Any ideas?

Thanx

This is a guess but it sounds like it could be your deformation order, you might need to set it to Front of Chain.

Here is what the Maya help files say about it.....

Front Of Chain

Front Of Chain is only available for blend shape deformers. Blend shape deformers are typically used to create deformation effects on a skinned character. Front Of Chain assures that blend shape deformation effects occur before the deformation effects provided by the skinning. If the effects occur afterwards, undesirable double transformation effects occur when the skeleton is posed.

Thanks, I looked it up but didnt work. I changed the deformation order and put Blendshapes at the top, but no joy.

Basically, the higher i move my blendshape, the less effective my rig is, and if the Blendshape slider is all the way to the top, my skin isnt binded at all.

Ive nearly created my very own character rig and have overcome so many school boy errors and hurdles, this is not beating me this close to the finishing line.

PLease someone help.

Thnx Jsprogg

Hehe, its all to do with order in which its all created. You could actually feed in your blend shapes on Default setting before binding too, even easier...

Cheers
