Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

CH-47 Chinook - WIP

Howdy Folks,

Well I put my other piece on hold as I am getting some better reference pictures taken from a friend that has the HALO 3 legendary edition. In the mean time I am working on this Chinook. Hope everyone likes. Take it easy.

Meredith: thanks brother, Post up a pic when you get the chance. This is my second model and the first I am working on taking to completion so I work a little more each day. It's kinda easy sitting over here in the desert though hehehehe. Either rate Thanks for the comments and take care.

More to come........

Now having issues woth Boolean

Howdy Folks, I'm having issues. I am trying to cut my windows into the Chinook and running into issues. Everytime I try to do a boolean operation to cut a window the whole thing disappears. I did a clean up on the mesh of the fuselage and tried all the other options but it still happens. Does anyone have a fix or work around? I have cut most of the front cockpit windows just by using the split polygon tool but the circle windows on the side are going to be a pain in the arse to do that way. Thanks for your time and I hope someone can help with this.

:headbang:

My advice is to never use booleans. Booleans often fails and if it doesn't it leaves you with bad geometry. Do it manually with split poly tool, delete edges, extrude etc.

am only just getting back into maya, just started blocking the model. Not working on it much, at uni doing engineering so don't have lots of time.
Keep going man, and don't use booleans!
We should have a modeling challenge user added image

I would run with the challenge idea. I just got into Maya myself. I always ran into issues with it or it frustrated me or I was in a war zone hehehehe so time never let me get started on learning Maya. Now days I have quite a bit of time on my hands and am learning. So other then a huge memory advantage for you sir, I think the challenege would teach me something. Either rate take care and post a pic of your model when you can.

Actually I just got back to the war zone, I am contracting in Iraq. But this time the job is allowing me alot more free time. I got frustrated with the window thing and started modeling the fuselage in Nurbs then I have moved back to working on the poly one. I am going to post another pic of it later on though as I need some advice from the experienced folks out there on cleaning up the Poly count. I know right now it's outrageous hehehe. Either rate Hope you are all well. By the way. Looking good for just blocking out my friend.

Current Progress

Here is some more progress on the Chinook. Can I get some opinions on the Poly of this thing. I finally did wind up using Boolean as I got all the stay away from boolean comments after I got half way through the work hehehehe. What I wound up doing was cutting the areas out of the fuselage where the windows were going to go and adding in a Poly plane that I had boolean cut for the windows. Any rate I hope you guys are all well and take care.
