Actually, for only two weeks of modeling, you're doing very well. No crits from me...keep up the good work.

I think the biggest crit/comment I can offer is to start small.
Trying to tackle a house after only two weeks is nothing short of a massive challenge.
A house project is such a great challenge though because it offers you so much learning as you go. By the time you finish one room and move onto the next you will have figured things out to improve efficiency, design, and work flow. All things that you need to build up to get to build those mind blowing cg pieces we see everywhere.

I would advise personally to focus on modeling for now, and worry about texturing and lighting later on. I know it may not look like much right now but once you get the fundamentals of one area down you will better be able to grasp other areas.

Your house looks to be a little too crowded for my personal taste but also in relation to any kind of scale I think it is way off. The chairs at the checker tables seem to be bigger than the computer desks behind them. Also the lights/buttons on the wall seem to be a little too big for their position on the wall, maybe put them higher or shrink them again to fit the scale of the room a little better.

Things I think you should think about:
The details or lack thereof around the window. The placement of that window, and the size of it.
The outside of the house would look much sharper with some smaller details in it, again the window details would help, maybe some trim around the door, and then give us a few closeups of the detail that you do put in.

I think you are off to one hell of a start as you have just started to figure out the user interface along with the tools and how they work I imagine. Keep it up and feel free to ask myself (and probably anyone else here) for tips, tools, advice or w/e comes to your head.
Good work and I can't wait to see your progress!

Cheers!
Alexander

Its a good start for sure after two weeks. I wouldnt say a house is a big challenge at all.

The old Maya learning books were far more in depth for beginners than this, I remember the constant physical headaches (really) of learning Maya on a daily basis, it was all extrudes, uvs, animation and particles, not for the faint hearted especially if you are new to it all.

anyways, if you think the model of the house is sucking, stop take a step back and just study it. I would then do a google search for real houses of the same type. Save them off as references. Then use these to improve on your skills. Alot of it is observation on what looks right and what doesnt.

the house you've got here represents the basic look of a house, which is great, but now the trick is to add the extra parts get the scales and proportions right to make it better. this is where thereferences and observation come in.

Dont try and build the house out of one cube, create different parts to use over and over again

Ive attached an image of a freelance project Im working on right now, its in wireframe so you can see how things sit. The main building was done in two halves and then merged together at the righ points. I made one window frame which was then used as the Patio doors on the balcony. The roof and supports are all separate, the supports were used as the other parts of the window frame work. The lower garden wall is separate from the building as is the side entrance and the door there is a new piece too.

Dont rush into it either, plan it out as to how you want things to look then go from there.

Cheers
Jay

Thank you for the replies. I will consider what you all have said.
As for that image, it really inspired me. Was this made out of simple primitive objects? Because the only object I see you probably made it with was a cube, and with just cubes you made it look awesome! (considering you only used cubes xD)

the house is cool you have done, dont know what you are learning with but its working, but i learnt from one of the books jay mentioned and it took a 2 weeks to bounce a ball and another week to work out i had to use another app to comp the hardware render (there were particles) and the software render together.., at least that, maybe a month, i forget.., but i was very happy with my bouncing ball that bounced through a fire ring user added image

Well I have taken some tips from proffessionals at this program and I did get a few books for maya, (havnt bothered to read many because I find reading extremely boring, even if it comes with all sorts of pictures and diagrams, a book aint a book without the long text user added image )

?? not sure what you mean.., but you can learn a lot from those books if you take it step be step and refer to it later as you learn the meaning of what you are doing and why.., but seeing you have help from professionals im sure you will be fine.., im sure they are no less than a call away and will help you through all this.

dont be so tough on yourself, the house is not hideous for someone using maya for a couple of weeks, as im sure you know, its good work.., the cup is half full, not half empty.

good luck.., and tha, tha, thats all folks
