Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Moving verts with "Insert"

Using Maya 8.5 on Precision 690. OS is XP Pro

When rebuilding polys I will select a series of verts I want to move in unison. I use the insert to move the manipulator to the vert I want to use to direct the transfornm of the whole group of selected verts. Then insert again and I'm good to go.
Moving the verts in this synchronized way works fine, except when I try to snap the "lead" vert to another vert while keeping the orchestrated formation of all the selected verts. When I do this using the "v" key to snap, all the selected verts converge on that snap, not just the vert that I have assigned the manipulator to.

This didn't used to happen.

This operation used to work exactly as I wanted, allowing me to rebuild my polys. However, recently that has changed.

Anyone know how to change it back?

I hope I have described this in a way that others can follow.

thanks. T

Hi, with the translate tool selected hit the middle button in the top right corner. Under Move snap settings make sure that retain component spacing is selected.
