selectig faces using curve on live object

Hey guys, I was wondering if I were to draw a curve on a surface by turning it live, would there be a way to make the faces the curve went over be selected either as the curve was layed down or once the curve had been finished using mel.

Many thanks in advance

Chris

Hmm, closest point on surface might help (or closest point on mesh depending on the version that your using)
