This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

Hi all

Been a long time since I posted anything here but I have been pondering my next system.

I thought I would go Vista 64-bit version with Maya 2008 and the opportunity to add large amounts of RAM which would get used. Then stick in one of them workstation class video cards (probably ATI).

Anyone using a 64-bit system?

I currently run an AMD 6400+ Black Edition Processor and 4Gb of RAM and the 64bit versions of Vista Ultimate and Maya 2008.

The only word of caution I would give is to turn off the Aero UI in Vista, and go to classic mode as it can cause issues with the viewports. Plus Vista runs faster without it and you'll not use it after a while...

Same here. The vista GUI is cute upon installation but gets real old real fast especially considering how much resources it hogs (friggin ridiculous).

No Vista does run faster then XP once you turn the aero UI off...

TBH if you have the RAM Vista runs like a dream, but anything under 1Gb stick with XP.

From personal experience I wouldn't suggest XP x64, it "kinda" served its purpose for the time being but support for it wasn't good because vista talk started to roll around.

> Right Click on the desktop and choose Personalise (or Personalize for our cousins over the pond :p)
> Choose Themes
> In the drop down menu choose Windowx Classic

Jobs done and the Aero UI is away and you are back with a classic Windows 2000 Pro look, just the same as you are with XP.
