idea for the next challenge

iz gots an idea for the next challenge...

instead of the normal "think of it yourself" things, hows about we do something where everything is preset, like, an inorganic modelling challenge where everyone uses the same bps, same scene set up and everything, and it's all down to modelling skills...

just a thoughtuser added image

jeremy birn does a similar type challenge (but with lighting) on his site and cgtalk. i think it's a good way of learning - though i think i would tend to go for more of an open ended theme.

What like build from someones concept art or something ???

the ony problem with that is it will be a little boreing as everyone will be maing the very same thing.

I like it when we have a ruff idea were everyone puts there own spin on things.

I like those challenges the best. Last time we did that was when Mike had us put our own spin on 2d game characters. The challenge did great.

i think those challenges are neat..we did something like that on smcars.net where everyone did a audi from the same bps and scene setup and it was good esp for newbies because with everyone posting wires and seeing how they go about making the same part youre maiking, it make it easy for learning which helped out newbies a lot and it was fun seeing where you compare to the best

I might be interested in going back to doing challenges if I had any way to afford prizes and stuff. If people would participate without prizes, I could get back to it. user added image I'm just poor like that, haha.

But anyway, if people are interested in getting back to the old school challenges, I can.

prizes just instigate the maya masters to do it anyways and intimidate the idiots (like myself) so prizes suck :p

I agree with jsprogg. What better prize is there than experience.
That is what drives me forward, looking back at my earlier work and marvel at how better I've gotten.

Yeah mike, Cash prizes are not necessary. I mainly did them to increase my skill. The site award Icon is the best idea, a great plus for winning a challenge. I haven't done any modeling in a while. Need to get back to it.
