Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

"Bits" For a Character

Hey Guys,

Long time no post when it comes to WIP's. Been really busy.

I'm gonna start to post up some progress of a new character, its gonna take a long time as i'm only doing a couple of hours here and there, got the concept and the refs need to get on with it now!

Gonna be unveiling him in bits as they progress, as I think it sort of best fits the idea.

Heres the first part of it, his spine, it wont all be on display but some of it will so I modeled most of it anyway. Need a tweek here and there to add soem variation but thats not going to be a problem.

Oh christ that brings back some severe memories of my last job at the studio.

I had to do a full human, inside an out....the worst part was actually the spine with vertebrae and cushions between them...

good luck on this Steve I'll be watching with keen interest!

Cheers man,

I actually enjoyed modeling the spine, thats straight from maya. I did a little X-ray turntable with it too, just for the hell of it, looks pretty sweet, might post it up on youtube.

Sure we've not been modelig nthe same stuff?? DNA, spine.. haha!

Whats the stuff for, when's it on?

Its a series on discovery channel (Im led to believe) I cant give the title until I know the release date. I was pretty much the only modeller on the show. The other guys started doing small insignificant stuff toward the end but I did the bulk of it.

Talk about pressure, but no diamonds

You're actually modeling the spinal cord. If this is going where I think its going, this will really really cool user added image, good luck with this.

Cool Steve

If I may make one comment toward the brain, which does look good, and thats just to make the brain lumps smaller and more regular for added realism...

just my usual 10p...
