This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

Is there any open source game engines that work with maya?

You could try XNA, thats free and works with .fbx files.

yeah, i was thinking of that. But its PC only. IS there anything like that for the mac

panda3D, works using python
supposidly a short learning curve

you have to convert your models and stuff though

cant remember if its oopen source, but its from CMU

just google panda3D

On the topic of game engines, anyone know if its possible somehow to import things into unrealEditor?

For Unreal, you might want to check this tutorial out. It's for MAX but it can be adapted and shows you the whole process.

As far as just the importing or exporting from Unreal...just google something like "Maya to Unreal" and you should get some hits.
