Render machine

I am needing to build a render machine. I was thinking of a dual Intel Xeon Quad Core E5450 @ 3Ghz although the new intel i7 chips are looking very good for the money. This might prove a better choice as I could make two comps with the i7 as opposed to 1 dual computer with the Xeon chips.
If anyone could give any advice it would be much appreciated as I am a bit out of my depth with this.

Many thanks,

Leon

If its for rendering alone then just grab a few cheap machines and make a farm. More power and cheaper.
