I'm trying to work in Maya and everything is white like the pic! how do i get everything to the default gray? It looks like someone turned on a really bright light!

you have lights in the scene, so you may have "7" pressed, which is lighted view...
try hitting "6"

I've tried that! Nothing happens. You think it's a graphics card error?

Hmm, I doubt it...
go to Shading>Use Default Material...
that may work

Hmm, you might want to play around in the preferences and just change settings related to the display until it works, because I don't believe a graphic card error could do that., although I certainly could be wrong

alright. Maybe this is a new clue. when I restart maya it works. But when I open a certain project i've been working on it messes up again. Are there settings that reset when you reset maya that don't reset when you make a new scene?

it could be that you've been playing with the initial lambert 1 shader - which would explain why everything is white.

take a look in your hypershade to see if the lambert 1 shader is white.

Tried that. Still nothing. Even when I change material color. It's like there's a light shining really bright. Even when there is NO lights:S

I've had many Problems with maya and i found out if you delete 1 folder called 8.5 ( or what ever version of maya your using) when you go back to maya all your settings will be back to default. And it wont harm anything else but saved settings on maya.user added image

hmm... maybe it's some setting within the project I messed up? when I go to lighting>use no lights .... then that works.. but It doesn't make sense because I delete all the lights.. even the default.. but still. nothing..

Nope. that didn't work either. I'm starting to think it's something in the scene itself. Maybe a material or something.. :S
