This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

Questions about maya 5.0

Haha.. Well its not out yet of course... But anyway, Im just curious when do you think it will come out? And also, when it comes out, what new features do you think it will have in unlimited/complete? Do you think an unlimeted will come out for mac?

I know none of these can be accurately answered, but im just curious to what people would think.

Only rumors, but I've heard that the major big deal with 5.0 will be the release of an "Unlimited" version for the Mac, but, it's only a rumor at this point....

I found out from a co-worker who was having mac/maya problems, and after he talked with the aw rep, that's the feeling he got from them.

like I said, it's merely a rumouruser added image

I'm a hardcore PC guy, so I hope theres at LEAST GI, and/or HDRI included with Maya's renderer.

Or at least a MR bundle.

The following is a bit off from the issue of this thread, but can anyone tell me a little about the difference between how 3dsmax handles nurbs in comparison to maya?

Does a future release of maya "need" better nurbs tools?

And finally, if anyone can answer this, does it have to be so hard to texture a nurbs surface? It is my understanding that you cannot project an image right onto a nurbs surface like with polys.

It would be nice being able to texture a Nurbs surface by surface patches as you can a poly by face. For now if I need to I just detach the part of the surface I want to have a seperate texture. Then just put it back together with the seperate UV's user added image

3dsmax' nurbs is (or at least was) it's plague. They never worked anything like they do in Maya. I haven't seen the latest Max version so I don't know if they're any better now.

Judging by the revision history ((1>1.5 (irix)>2>3>3.5(mac)>4>4.5 )) I rekon its a safe bet that 5 will be next user added image
All I want out of 5 is some sort of proper dynamic muscle system, and a few enchancements to the rigging/animation process. Oh and that chick from the Maya smoking girl ad to leap out of the box and.....

NURBS in Max just plain suck. No better in the latest version than it was back in version 3. No comparison to Maya's NURBS tools.
