Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

Distortion and blank if zoom out?

Ugh...

I was quite happily working on my model, but now in perspective mode there's a weird distortion (faces go all scratchy and turn black or get cut in half as I rotate around the model)

And if I zoom out too much it just goes blank and I don't see anything.

This happened suddenly so it must be something simple I've done inside Maya.

It can't be a driver issue as other models are fine.

With the zooming out it could be the Far clip plane, if you open up the outliner, select the camera you are on ie; Perspective, and open the attributes for it, then half way down is the settings for the far clip plane, just whack it up high and you can zoom out to your hearts content.Something like 10000.000 should do it!

With the other thing, not sure what you mean by scratchy, the model half disappearing could be the near clip plane, so check if that's set to the minimum it can be, I think it's 0.010, any chance of a screenshot?

the clipping planes on your camera are all screwy it sounds like, they control how near or far you can zoom before objects "clip" off.

Hmm I don't think its the clipping planes ?

I'm also getting an error:

"could not find an appropriate startup camera: top"

I imported the file into a new scene and it all looks fine now, oh well!
