Computers Potential in using Maya?

Hey guys,

Just wondering when I follow Tutorials, I have noticed the final rendered scene is usually pretty smooth compared to what mine usually turns out like. Even modelling It can sometimes look a little blocky??

The question I want to ask is?

Is there some setting on my computer or my graphics card that i need to select or configure. According to the base score on my P.C it is a 5.8 . Which usually means it is pretty good. but I do feel that i have not unlocked it's potential.

On maya when when i some out my gris usually breaks up after a certain distance.

My specs are as follows :

Vista 64 premium

Intel quad Q9400 2.6GHz

4Gb

500mb

NVidea Quadro Fx 3700

Maya 2009 64-bit

I just feel it should run a lot smoother or is this just the case with maya?

Thanks agin in advanceuser added image

Hahah, you think thats bad? I run it on 1.4ghz single core!, 512 ram, intergrated gfx card with 32mb vram!!! It doesnt affect renders unless your card doesnt support something (like hardware shading).

and yet it runs more smoothly than on my dual core pc that overall is about 3 times better (processor x3, gfx card 4x, ram 2x)
the only time the pc is better is on scenes when my mac cant cope at all (which im not really at that kind of level yet anyway)

Could be the AA settings on the GFX card Silverspawn.

Elephant - your PC must be in a really bad way if an old mac runs maya more smoothly, I would recommend a reformat and a clean up inside.
