Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

Area Light Render problem

Hello. Using Maya 8.5 on Precision 690, OS: XP-Pro, 2 Gigs RAM

I am doing a tutorial from the book, "Mastering Maya 8.5". I am on chapter 14.

I have gotten to a point where my render should be close to finished, but suddenly the light is rendering very strangely, creating a weird, crushed glass like texture wherever it hits anything. The rest of the low rez scene is looking fine.

I have attached a screen shot showing the problem. can anyone look at this image and tell me where the problem is?

I have gone over the tutorial steps and also played with various settings for the whole scene to try to sort it out.

Thanks, T

Check your GI/caustics samples and please show your rendersettings/lightsettings

OK, here are both render and light settings.

Any ideas?

"Any ideas?"
- I have a lot of ideas

-First of all add 2 zero's in the photon intensity(before the point obviously)

then do a test render
-probably your render will be a bit blotchy
Up the amount of GI photons let's say to about 40000

do a testrender.
then up the global illumination accuracy
make sure that you have a GI radius of one otherwise mental ray will try to figure that one out himself and letting computers think for us is generally not adviseable(i saw that proof in the Matrix and Terminator never ends well user added image )

And a little tip i would up the intensity of the light to about 3500 and change to quadratic fall of I've read somewhere that that is the true light fall of.

what are your raytrace settings by the way(in the light)?

More importantly, what are your final-gather settings. that looks like the problem to me
