Booleans > Union Tools HELPP

once again i am stuck on this part
union tools where im looking to merge 2 objects together
the vertex's are clearly through the object im looking to do.
Driving me NUTS :headbang:
any tips?..

that and why are you using union?
it's quicker than manually doing it yourself with drawing edges and deleting faces, but it doesn't always work and no one ever knows why (i doubt the programmers know why too)
btw, are the normals facing the same direction?
if you post a screen shot post one with the normals showing (Display > polygons > normal direction)

display > polygons > Normal Directions?.. cant find it =[
arghhh...
it onestly isnt in my maya display options..

display > polygons > Normal Size is 0.40
i have changed the chest and head part of the model too
subdivs too.

Don't use a boolean with stuff like this
match up the numbers of faces as good as possible combine the polys and merge vertices

booleans suck plain and simple

I'm sorry, but if the tutorial is telling you to merge a head with a body via Boolean... than that tutorial SUCKS!

Make sure that the head model at the opening (where you want it to merge with the rest of the model) has an equal number of vertices as the opening you want to merge it to.
Then snap the points together (hold down the "v" key) and then merge all the vertices that are now on top of each other.

to clarify see the image if what we are saying here sounds totally incomprehensible and the tutorial isn't mentioning any of it do as mayaniac is saying and stop this tutorial try some better ones either from this or another site there are a lot of them, with a lot better tutorials.

I must disagree. This is one of the best basic tutorials out there and part of the idea behind tutorials for beginners is to teach the basics whether you think it's a good idea to use them or not.
I'm not saying using booleans is usually a good idea, but you might still use them for different tasks. This tutorial shows you how.

About the problem mentioned:
Try to delete the history for the objects and make sure there isn't any messed up geometry there.
I suggest you go on with the tutorial, and learn every method out there, then decide what works for you.
I can also strongly suggest Kurt's other tutorials on this site.
