Beer glass scene creation
This course contains a little bit of everything with modeling, UVing, texturing and dynamics in Maya, as well as compositing multilayered EXR's in Photoshop.

Going back to my Vanship (re-working/finishing off)

Going though my hard drive I found some models I thought I had lost. This is one I never got round to texturing (uv missing as well but I`m sure I did them).

Any way after spending some time on it this is what I have so far - going for a anime look as the vanships are from a show called Last Exile - very cool anime I first saw at S.A.N.D back in 2005.

This is a mix of toon shaded and a Occ pass - Looks funky might keep it. The ship is for a girl (Hence the pink) and might add some details like the pink car in "the fast and furious 2". Def going to put some racing numbers on it and maybe some pilots in it - not sure how far I`m going to go.

Its always good to have a look at your old models just to see the change in style.

hey nice render

i saw 'vanship' and i was thinking 'that name sounds familiar' then i saw your first pic and i was like 'hey that looks like it's from last exile'
and then you said it is from last exile
i didn't think anyone else knew about it!

the toon shading looks really sweet!
are the wires just really thin cylinders?

Last Exile was huge for a little while over here in the UK. I got a box set from ebay for just £8 which was great.

If you check out the old thread you`ll see I made the ship from the show as well as this one. Again in the same state as this one - might rerender this one aswell

The toon shader settings I got from a guy at gnomon online video (had to pay for it mind) who help out someone who was making Arika models here a few months ago. Had it a while now just did not have anything to use it on until now.

The cables were lofted circles with history still on them so I could get the size just right. They rap around the holder aswell (too much detail)

Just rendering out a little 275 frame camera flyby the model animation so update 2mo I hope

the shading is pretty nice, i like his technique... pitty you have to pay to find out what it is. user added image

the ships are pretty cool, I've never heard of last exile. I might have to look it up on youtube.

I would consider just a straight turntable of the model with the flyby (i'm not a fan of the zoom in bit btw).

Cheers guys.

I find turn table animations boring and because of the shape of this thing it pops in and out of the screen. I did one before for this guy - its on a old show reel I`ll try and dig it up.

Yes Toon shader, mental ray contour rendering and Occ layer. The tut is sort of worth it. It covers getting the lines right and how to get the toon just right which I cant really find anywhere else, but the setting are not that hard to be honest.
