Transparency in View Panels

I have Maya 2009 Complete on Windows Vista. I just noticed that if I add transparency to an object, the transparency doesn't show up in the view panels. However, if I render out a scene, the transparency shows up.

My issue is that since I can't see the transparency in my view pane, it is difficult to adjust. I'm pretty sure that when I had 8.5 unlimited I didn't have this problem.

Anyone else run into this? Anyone have any suggestions? I'm guessing it might have something to do with my graphics card or with Vista, not sure though.

Possibly a graphics card issue me thinks, in the mean time you could always do an interactive update render thingy ('IPR render' I believe) on your the transparent object so you can get really fast updates.

That's an excellent idea bendingiscool. Thanks a whole heap. I never use IPR so it never even occured to me but that would definitely be good solution.

one thing that I've noticed is that by simply applying a map to the transparency of a material, it doesn't apply the texture's "color" to the transparency, but the texture's transparency to the transparency, which isn't exactly what you typically want.

In order for it to appear correctly, I have to manually link a texture's out color to the material's transparancy. After that, if I turn on High Quality rendering, the transparancy shows up properly in realtime.

Well, I opened Maya and started to check out the transparency thing again. Funny thing...it's working now.

Our power went out in the middle of the night, so maybe my computer just needed a reboot. Shame on me for not doing the first step in trouble shooting when everything else fails....REBOOT
