Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

For a second program I would suggest XSI. If there was no Maya I'd be in XSI user added image

Just for the sake of alternation I voted for LW. It's much cheaper and has a really good renderer... XSI is good too...

just curious - what is lacking in maya that makes you need to learn another app?

sister program.

Hi there,

xsi is really expensive. the modelling is not up to standard in comparison to lightwave IMO. Yes, iv'e used xsi 3.0.

I frequently switch between Maya and lightwave 7.5 using obj format to export/import.

I find that (as far as modeling goes) maya and lightwave are quite complimentary.

Lightwave has fantastic proportional modeling tools that are simple to use and extremely fast. and the awesome bandsaw, bandglue functions as well.

Maya, on the other hand is great for extrememly inticate stuff (I find anyway).

Also, on the other hand a sister program or 'excellent sybling' program for Maya might be digital fusion or shake to composite all the layers that you might render in Maya.

Lightwave all the way Baby!user added image I started on Lightwave and I love it. Never used XSI but the price point Lightwave is a fantastic product. And the interface I think makes alot of sense all the names are thier right out in the open. It does take a little getting used to as Modeler and Layout are seperate interfaces. But that is where the HUB comes into play.:p

Lightwave for the price, i reckon. THen again it wouldn't compliment Maya with it's power.
Dunno about XSI, never used it.

i dont care about the price as i have a bit distant relative who has XSI... haha... i asked him and he obviously told XSI.... as for lightwave i just dloaded a pirated copy of LW6 to see how it works.... the interface SUCKS!!!!!!

is it the same in 7.5 too??? i am thinking of moving to XSI as i have seen it in my relatives PC....

Current Decision: XSI

and why am i switching? maya's modelling rules.. but the animation and texturing seems a bit too waggie to me... which ones good in animation and which ones good in texturing????

i just wanted a sister program to help with maya so that i could use something thats good in XSI/LW to improve my end result..

sorry for the craggy post but i really want to know who is the person who voted for 3DS???
