This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with
complex objects.
I'm using a polyplane with a combination of clusters, cubes, and spring constraints. Then simulating with gravity. I just wish I had nCloth, fluids, and fur...I could do so much with those tools. I don't ever see that happening though. A person can dream though .
Edit: The animation is on the springy side but that's easy to fix by increasing the spring stiffness and dampening.

I don't even know what soft bodies is. I'll be looking that up for sure as it sounds promising. And yes, the below method is not efficient in the least.

Haha, yeah too much work. It took me close to an hour to rig that.
@ stwert: I checked out the soft bodies and they are awesome. This feature is my new toy now. I'll playing with it until I have a decent understanding of how to use it. Its probably about the closest thing I'll get to nCloth, with limitations of course but still it looks very useful for someone who doesn't have the unlimited version of maya.

I finally have a pretty good understanding of soft bodies now. I've created land where a vehicle can drive over it and leave tracks, or where someone can leave foot prints, etc. I've used it to create a swimming pool and a lake. I created a table cloth and covers for a bed. It's really really useful.
I made this basketball net in about 5 minutes. It's needs tweaking but it was super easy.
