trouble light a ship engine- help wanted

hello Im trying to get a lighting effect for my ship model so that the engine glow from the rear shot can be partly seen from the front this is to be used in the third shot in the test pic. i tried for a volume light but i cant seem to get it right any suggestions?

yeah thanks i was looking for a good particle tutorial ill keep that in mind for the actual animation but for now i was hoping to get the same FX with lighting since i need it for still shot with particle ill have actually animate and I'm not planing on doing that right yet. the still shot in question is 1 i posted earlier withe space and earth background.

You could try fog to reflect the light or create geo to stick out a bit with say transparancey with some noise so that it does not look like a solid mesh...........dave

hmmm yes that sound like a great idea with the geo then all i have to deal with is put a volume light with small lighting radius so it looks like the geo giving of light and reflect of the model thanks dave. ill have play around with transparency, glow and luminescence to get the right FX.

hey Dave i got the FX i was looking using nurb sphere fooling around with the incandescence by throwing a ramp on it then i connected the alpha output of ramp to the glow intensity and checked hide glow source and viola here is my results what do you think?
