This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.
I've tried each way (only once each ), and from my experience, modeling the ear separately seems to be much less of headache than extruding from the head. I find it easier to line it up after, than to deal with it as I go
I make the basic shape (very basic no detial just the outline and volume) as part of the head, I then extract it then add the detail then re attach it when finished.
haha alright thanks for your input, I am in the process of modeling a head and have never tried extracting the ear then reattaching it later..think I am going to, as I also hate modeling ears.
