Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

thicken a lofted surface?

Hi all!

I am a total MAYA noob, currently learning on 64bit 2012. I am trying to create a model of mitochondrial cristea. I began by creating a CV curve, then duplicating it, Ytranslating a bit, and making modifications to the curve, to create a set of horizontal slices. My plan was to loft the curves to create a surface, then extrude to give it some thickness. The extruding isn't going well. I've tried surfaces>extrude, and also convert NURBS to polygons and then extruding, but both approaches are giving me a bunch of jumbled garbage. Can anyone help me? Screen shot of current model is attached.

Thanks!

Could you give us your reference pic so we have a idea of what you are trying to model.........dave

Below are an illustration and a microphoto. I started by modeling a shell (also shown below), which I will also want to thicken. The cristae will go inside. In the planned animation, a camera will zoom in to mitochondrion, then outer membrane will peel back to show internal structure. I need both surfaces to have some thickness for the cross section to be shown in final animation. Thanks for any help!

Two more pics below. Once modeled, the mitochondria will be added to the myofibrils and sarcoplasmic reticulem that I have already modeled. Nothing is textured yet, just material colors to make the models easier to look at.
