This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

Can't create capital a in Maya 2012

Hey Guys,

I'm having quite of a problem here..
When I try to create the letter a in capital form it won't create anything.
The small size a works fine as every other letter.

So:

I can create every letter in normal and capital in 3D
I can't create capital a in 3D.

I'm having a hard time figuring this thing out and it's making me crazy!

I appreciate it if someone can help me.

Greetings,

Rick

Could use just a smidge more info....

What is the font you are trying to use? Are you creating curves, trim, polygon, or bevel? I would like to see if I can duplicate the error.

Thx

Also, there is a bug where you cannot open the surfaces bevel plus options box and get an error msg like error: value out of range: 3. To fix this error you go to create text options and reset. Just in case your problem is related try resetting the create text tool.

Try creating a captial A in another program like notepad, copy, and try to paste it into Maya.

Trim, curves, poly works fine except bevel.

I'm not working with a Illustrator file.

I'm using Times New Roman regular as a font.
But no other font works.

I'm just going to create -> Text and type the word AUDIO in the field.
As long as I don't put the capital 'A' in the word it will make a 3D object of it.
As soon as I put the capital 'A' in the word it won't show anything and I get this error:

// Error: bevelPlus1 (Bevel Plus): Group 1 curve 2 is not inside the previous curve. Group these curves appropriately in Adobe (R) Illustrator (R) //

Hope this helps!

And the thing with copying the A in another text program doesn't work.
Thanks though!

I have no idea what it could be. If you have reset the create text tool and it is still misbehaving I am baffled.

I can create times new roman "AUDIO" using the bevel option.

I also created "AUDIO" as curves and then went into the group and selected each letter and then surfaces>bevel plus and could successfully create each letter including the "A".

All I can think of is close maya, delete your user/documents/maya folder (or rename it), restart maya and try again to see if it has anything to do with your prefs being corrupted.

I figured it out!!

Apparently a lot of fonts won't work with the capital 'A'
It's strange and not suposed to happen but it does ( in my case )

When I pick a different font everything works fine including the capital 'A'

So if you have any problems with this try a different font.
If that doesn't work try another and another en well you understand me.

Thanks guys for all the help!
Didn't helped much but it's good to know I can rely on some people!

Greetings,

Rick
