Beer glass scene creation
This course contains a little bit of everything with modeling, UVing, texturing and dynamics in Maya, as well as compositing multilayered EXR's in Photoshop.

Jay, I noticed that piece when it was first posted, and to be honest, there seems be more going on than just photoshop. I would not be surprised at all if he actually used a rough model in the scene and then did a paint over. There's just something about it I cant quite put my finger on.

Well thats okay, its not like he's cheating. A Digital Matte matte painter will use 3d....but its still considered 2d at the end. Regardless of his technique its still bloody good in my opinion.

Yeah, It's still really good stuff regardless of his technique. Do you do any matte painting Jay?

Thats to bad, I bet you could do a killer job if you had the time to learn more.

On a related subject, since you are working at Digital Domain, are you at all involved with James Cameron's Avatar 2 and 3, or does Cameron have nothing to do with them anymore ever since he sold it off?

THX:

No, I'm not. I havent heard anything on Avatar 2 or 3 at all. I am at the new/in progress DD studio in London. I really dont know the ins and outs of James Camerons involvement at DD. All I know is that he and the late Stan Winston started the company...but as for selling it off.....I'm clueless LOL

I dont even know if DD will be doing any Avatar related stuff -wasnt most of that Weta, ILM, Framestore and MPC anyway? Anyway we have projects on the go at the moment that I cant say about right now....at a later date though.

cheers
Jay

Yeah, all the VFX was done by them for the first AVATAR. Was just curious if DD would be involved with the sequels.

Maybe they will, getting shots for films is a big bidding war between companies so we'll see what DD have up their sleeves for the future user added image

I remember counting the studios that contributed to Avatar in the end credits... there were more than ten for sure, so hopefully you get to do at least a few shots at DD. That'd be cool.

Hey jay, didn't know you are at DD. I used to work with Simon, he is character rigging guy over there. If you see/know him, remind him i'm kicking his ass at fantasy football this season. user added image

Are you on Poland Street? I heard its still quite small.
