Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

December Challenge - Martel

Hi,

Going to give this challenge a shot. I hope I'm going to be able to finish the model in time.

Here's my first WIP:

Thanks.

Did some more work. Still needs a lot of detailing but I'm first trying to get al the parts there. The legs still look pretty weird but I'm working on that.

It might be just the angle, but the lower legs look like they're slanted too much. Looks like the ankle end is too far forward. That might be why you think it looks weird at the moment.

The ankle was indeed to far forward and as a result it looked like the knees would bend backwards.

Just a little update on what I've got so far:

Did some work on my model. Hope that I have some more time in the next two weeks so that I can finish it in time.

Thanks Perfecto.
I think it's starting to come together. Still need to work on the hands and wrist joint. Still thinking about adding more detail or just keeping it simple. Hope to be able to start shading and texturing it next week.

This looks really nice, great style of character. And Jake, you're like the challenge master now user added image I wasn't aware that it was just 6 days left until you said it. I'm not going to take this thread off track, but just wondering if anyone would like some extra time? If so, give us a shout and we can extend this challenge with a week since it's holiday time https://simplymaya.com/forum/showthread.php?t=36839

Thank you for the nice comments.
I could probably use another week. I hope I can finish the modeling and shading before the end of next week. That extra week could be used for posing the model and make a nice render. So an extra week could come in handy.

Rigged my robot. It's the first rig I've ever created so it isn't perfect but it will do the job. Now I just need to come up with some sort of good pose for the robot. Also need to get started on some good lighting and some nice shaders. Still a couple of days left so I'm confident that I will be able to come up with some nice final renders.

Here's a last OA render of the robot with a simple pose (forgot to pose the right arm). And don't be offended by the middle finger, it's there because of the robots personality.
